Obituary for John Wayne Gilley

John Wayne Gilley
Florida and Bar Harbor -- John Wayne Gilley, 54, crossed over to be with the Lord on July 26, 2016. He passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He took his final earthly breath lovingly held in the arms of Anita, his wife of 30 years.

John was born April 25, 1962 in Bar Harbor, the son of Reginald A. and Nancy A. (Webber) Gilley Sr. In 1986, he married the love of his life, Anita. They moved to Islamorada in the Florida Keys. There John worked for 13 years as a chef. He became an avid offshore fisherman.

He and Anita spent most of their leisure time on their boat exploring the tropical waters from Key Largo to Key West. In 2002 they returned to Maine to work and enjoy family. After 5 years they heard those southern breezes calling and returned to Florida, this time settling in Fort Myers. He and Anita came up to Maine this summer so John could work the season for his long time employer and friend, Rob DeGennaro. His health began to deteriorate rapidly and he succumbed to diseases he had been fighting for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Anita; parents; brothers; Everette and Reg Jr.; sister, Carol Gilley, Step-son, Jon Crossman and his wife, Harmony, grandchildren; Thomas, Raymond, Stephanie, Ami and Shoshanna Crossman; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00PM, Friday, August 5, 2016 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery, Town Hill.
