Obituary for William Arthur LaBelle Sr.

TRENTON – William Arthur LaBelle Sr. 85, died peacefully at his home on December 2, 2018. He was born December 29, 1932, in Palmyra, Maine, the son of Ernest Adelbert LaBelle and Ruth (Bickford) LaBelle.

Dad attended schools in Farmington and Calais. He worked in the woods around his father’s saw mill along with his brothers until he entered the U.S. Air Force serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. When he returned from Korea he married the love of his life Eugenia (Jean) Lumbert. They were married December 1, 1952 in Moose River, Maine. They moved to Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi until his discharge from the Air Force. Once they returned to the area they lived in North Ellsworth, Maine and after a very short trucking job with Graves Trucking in Bangor he began his plumbing career. He began with Eldridge Plumbing, then with Ray Plumbing in Ellsworth where he remained for 36 years until his retirement, he worked hard and was well respected in this field, he worked on numerous large jobs, rebuild of the Waterville Hospital, CMP building in Augusta, Jackson Lab rebuilds among others. He was also the Trenton Plumbing Inspector for approximately 45 years. But his love was always his family, he always made time for and took care of us, we could go on forever with this so we will just say whatever we needed or whenever we needed him, he was there for us. He enjoyed being at camp “Second Lake Old Stream” hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, visiting with friends and family. Dad enjoyed traveling with mom and while they took many trips, he especially enjoyed their train trip through Canada to the west coast across the Rockies and their trip through the Panama Canal. In retirement he also enjoyed his garden, working around the house and hobby crafts such as bird houses, planters and other such items. Dad dedicated himself to the care of mom when she was failing and it truly broke his heart when she passed almost three years ago. If he had one thing to accomplish in his life, it was to make sure his family was ok and taken care of, well dad you can rest in peace because that’s exactly what you did to the very end and we already miss that call at the end of day to say good night.

He was a member with the VFW Post in Trenton and a member of the Trenton Baptist Church.

Arthur was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean, his parents and 1 sister Archena McCory. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryle Monson and husband Doug of Trenton; son William (Bill) Arthur LaBelle, Jr. of Mariaville and partner Shasta Newenham; son Lanier Lumbert of Portland; 2 grandchildren Douglas Monson, Jr. and wife Melissa of Brockton, MA and Brandie Rubin and husband Cliff of Scarborough; 5 great grandchildren Andrew, Emma and Sam Monson; Abigail and Lillian Rubin.
