Obituary for Thomas R. Perkins Jr.

Thomas R. Perkins, Jr., 63, died unexpectedly January 19, 2020 at his fathers’ home in Cape Coral, FL. He was born in Bangor, November 26, 1956 the son of Thomas R. and Mary Ann (McVety) Perkins, Sr. Tom grew up in Blue Hill living above the Partridge Drug Store with his family. Tom graduated from George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill class of 1975 and graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a BA degree in Criminal Justice in 1980. Tom began his law enforcement career working briefly for the Maine State Prison System and the Bar Harbor Police Dept. before entering and graduating from the Maine State Police 36th Training Troop in 1982. Tom was a proud member of the Maine State Police, retiring in 2005 with the rank of Sergeant with Troop J in Orono. After retirement, employment included a position as Director of Security at the Maine Maritime Academy, a Child Daycare Licenser with the Dept. of Health & Human Services and finally his dream job as Harbormaster in Brooksville. While on the boat or in the office with “the gang”, he was truly in his happy place.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Martha(Murphy) Higgins Perkins; father, Tom, Sr. of Blue Hill and Cape Coral, FL.; his pride and joy, his children, Pamela Perkins-Emmert and (James) and children, Lydia and Keene of Powder Springs, GA., Thomas C. Perkins and (Kim) of Bend, OR. and their mother, Candy Perkins, Megan Perkins Jacobs and (Matthew) of Apex, NC., Max Perkins of Dedham and their mother, Janet Mitchell; sister, Kim-Anne Perkins of Presque Isle; mother-in-law, Winifred Murphy of Bangor. Tom’s family grew in love and affection when he married Martha Murphy Higgins Perkins. He became stepfather and “Papa Tom” for Valerie Higgins Patnaik and (Praveen) and son, Carter of Chelmsford, MA, Lindsey and (Eric) Santolucito of Waxhaw, NC, and children, Olivia and Owen, Dan and Suzy Higgins and children, Alex, Nicholas and McKenzie of Lawrenceville, GA; many aunts, uncles and 22 cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Ann in 2012.
A service of remembrance will be at 2:00 pm, February 9, 2020 at the Ellsworth High School Auditorium. A spring interment will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery, Brooksville, overlooking Walkers Pond.
