Obituary for Stephen Williams Stanley

Sullivan
Stephen Williams Stanley, 67, passed away July 2 after a brief illness. He was born on December 14, 1952, in Bar Harbor son of Ethel Stanley.
He graduated Mount Desert Island High School in 1972, where he was known for his skills on the basketball court. Shortly after graduation, he began what would become a 48-year career at The Jackson Laboratory.
An avid outdoorsman, he spent his youth and younger years hunting and fishing. His passion, however, was gardening, a hobby that would continue through his life. He took great pride in his flower and vegetable gardens, which were a labor of love. In later years, he took an interest in sport knives, having hand-carved several one-of-a-kind pieces. One of his biggest joys were his many dogs. He bonded with them all for their unconditional love and companionship.
Stephen was predeceased by his mother, Ethel. He is survived by Diane Flemming, his loving partner of 15 years; a son, Christopher Stanley and his wife Ellen of Hancock; a daughter, Michelle Perry and her husband Galen of Phoenix, AZ; his brother Peter and wife Penny of Erie, CO; and two grandchildren, Emma Jean Stanley of Hancock and Sadie Mae Perry of Phoenix, AZ.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, July 21, at 10:00 am at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor, ME. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Stephen’s memory to the Ark Animal Shelter, PO Box 276, Cherryfield, ME 04622.
