Condolences

Condolence From: Betsy Lynn Snow
Condolence: Dear Martha, Laurie, Christine and family: When I first started my Park Service career, Norm was the chief ranger at Acadia and I was the Secretary to Keith Miller and then later, Lowell White. I have two kind stories about him. During the time I worked at Acadia, I dated an older man who I loved very much. We danced on Friday nights up at Hulls Cove; I don't recall the name of the place. On one occasion, you and Norm were there and Norm came over to me concerned about whether I should be dating Henry. It was as if Norm was my surrogate father and he was watching out for his daughter. Although we never married, Henry and I remained friends for many years. Much later in 1990, I had resigned from the NPS and had recently graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where I still live. I needed a summer job before moving to Tucson to attend law school, so I wrote Norm and asked if I could return for the summer, perhaps to work at Blackwoods CG. At 6:00 a.m. one morning, Norm had one of his supervisors call me and offer me a job, forgetting of course about the three-hour difference in time. Although I later decided to work at Grand Canyon that summer, I remember fondly that Norm didn't hesitate to bring me back noncompetitively after all those years. My best wishes to you and all of your family.

Condolence From: Tom Cherry
Condolence: Thinking of all the lives Norm helped to save when he built the cabinet work and set up the Dodge vans we purchased in Yellowstone in the early 70's to utilize as ambulances. For the first time we had head room and space to work on the patient. We could perform CPR or hang an IV without the blood infiltrating back up into the IV. His efforts probably are not known or remembered by many today. But, some of us do and we appreciate what he did as well as his dry wit and his direct, head on way of dealing with matters. Thanks Norm / we'll miss you! Tom Cherry

Wish we could be at the service to give you all a hug....Again all of our love, thoughts, and prayers from the West Coast. Matt, Janette, Courtney, and Will

Condolence: We were sorry to hear about Norm's passing. Norm was a great person and friend. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with him in Yellowstone. Norm and I sat next to each other during our 3 month stay at the NPS Albright Charm School. Norm's dry wit and humor helped me through some grim lectures and he added a good perspective on life. He will be missed.
