Obituary for Michael Charles Turner

Stonington
Michael Charles Turner, 65, passed away on Dec. 9, 2021, in Stonington. He was born in Bar Harbor on July 8, 1956, to Wilma Jane and Charles Frank Turner. He and his brother Hilton grew up first on Isle au Haut, then in Stonington.
Michael graduated from Stonington High School in 1974 and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1976. While at SMVTI (now SMCC), he fell in love with the woman who became his wife, Kathy Turner. He won her heart with his gentle spirit, poetry, and long walks after class, and they recently marked 45 years of marriage.
Michael is survived by Kathleen; his beloved daughters, Melissa and Jenn; his sons-in-law Steve and Ben; and Henry the dog. He was a deeply compassionate father. He attentively and compassionately listened to each of us through some of our hardest moments. The depth of his soul was balanced by his dry, relentless humor that never failed to keep us smiling. He was a loving, gentle grandfather to Isaac, Annabel, and Emma, who will miss his hugs and steadiness. He loved his brother Hilton; sister-in-law Rhonda, and nephews Ethan and Andy. He was glad to welcome Erin, then Jackson and Ryan to the family. He loved everyone in his quiet but deeply heartfelt way. He also leaves a small army of cousins he cared for and clients of his Green Magic Lawn Care business, all of whom were very important to him.
Michael loved many things in this world in addition to his family: collecting just about anything, reading, beating everyone and anyone at board and card games, trying to make us laugh, walking on the beach, skipping rocks and being a part of the beautiful island community.
The family will hold a quiet gathering together when the time is right. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Michael’s memory may be made to Northeast Coonhound Rescue https://necoonhoundrescue.org/ or Beagle Freedom Project https://bfp.org/. Condolences may be expressed at www.jordanfernald.com.
