Obituary for Merrill Leland Seavey Jr.

Merrill Leland Seavey Jr., 87, died February 15, 2020 in Bar Harbor. He was born April 25, 1932 in West Tremont, the son of Merrill L. and Georgia Bell (Freeman) Seavey Sr. Merrill served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the military, he was employed by the Jackson Laboratory from 1956 to 1994. Merrill was a member of the American Legion Post 69 of Southwest Harbor. He enjoyed lobster fishing, hunting and travel.
Merrill is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Elaine Arden (Whitney) Seavey, his sons, Sheldon Seavey and wife, Regina of Purcellville, VA, Gary Seavey and wife, Lori Stanley of Town Hill, a brother, George Seavey Sr. of West Tremont, step-son, Glenn Manring III of Lamoine, step-daughters, Lisa Manring of Brunswick and Betty Boghosian of Belgrade, six step-grandchildren; Glen IV, Clora and Mairi Manring, Amanda Becuchesne, Jared and Jessica Boghasian, six grandchildren; Colette Seavey, Jonathan Seavey, Dylan Seavey, Christine Seavey Crowley, Courtney Knowles and Merrill Jackson Seavey, and six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marguerite Seavey and two brothers, Roger Seavey and Doug Freeman.
A celebration of life will be held 10:00AM, Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert. In Lieu of flowers you may donate to Pine Tree Camp, 114 Pine Tree Camp Road, Rome, ME 04963. The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Mark Kandutsch and staff for their exceptional care, MDI Hospital and the nursing staff, Beacon Hospice, and Dr. Mark Brown for care given during Merrill’s stay at the hospital.
