Obituary for Margaret Agnes Conry

Ellsworth
Margaret Agnes Conry, 75, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 13, 2022, at an Ellsworth hospital, in the presence of family. Margaret was born in Reading, England on November 29, 1946. According to her mother, Margaret could recite her nursery rhymes when she was 18 months old. She immigrated to the United States with her mother and younger sister in November 1949. They joined her father, who had immigrated to the U.S. a year earlier, in New York City. Margaret lived in Manhattan with her growing family (5 more siblings) and attended Holy Cross School.
Margaret spent a year in Northern Ireland with her mother and siblings when she was eight. Her family lived on her uncles' farm in Pomeroy for a while. She and her sister would deliver lunch to their uncles who were working in the fields. Later, her family moved to Coagh where her youngest sister was delivered at home by a midwife. She attended a one-room schoolhouse while in Northern Ireland.
When Margaret was ten, her family moved to the Flatbush section of Brooklyn where she attended Holy Cross School. As a teenager, Margaret was a good singer and a good writer. She graduated from St. Brendan's Diocesan High School in 1964. After graduation, Margaret got a clerical job at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Manhattan. While she was working, Margaret was very generous at Christmas with her whole family. She bought everyone memorable gifts.
As a young adult, Margaret was afflicted with major health problems, which eventually left her disabled. She lived in Staten Island, N.Y. with her parents until 2002 when she moved to Hancock, Maine to live with her sister, Kathy, and her family.
Margaret is survived by 3 brothers in Hancock: Kevin Conry and his wife, Barbara; John Conry; and Francis Conry; and one brother of Staten Island, NY: Felix Conry; two sisters: Frances Pietz and her husband, Ted, of Franklin; and Kathleen Birdsall and her husband, Charles, of Hancock; 13 nieces and nephews; and 17 grandnieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her sister, Mary Conry.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 at 1pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with funeral mass at 2pm with Fr. Roland.
