Tremont
Lillian R Hodgdon, 92, died of natural causes May 15, 2022, at Holden. Lillian was born August 13, 1929, in Tremont. She was the daughter of Leslie and Elsie (Harper) Rich. Lillian graduated from Pemetic High School, class of 1947.
She married Frank L. Hodgdon and they had three sons, Gary, Frank (Dinky), and Douglas. In her early years she packed sardines at the Underwood Factory in Bass Harbor, worked as a bookkeeper for Tom Newman’s Trucking Company, and Charles Richard’s Garage in Somesville. Lillian’s last job, and her favorite, was working as a secretary at the Tremont Consolidated School. She loved her job at the school, but mostly she loved the interaction with the students and teachers, cutting soup labels, and her beloved Vaseline.
Lillian always had a large vegetable garden “down back”, which she worked at diligently, hauling her sled or wagon full of tools, up and down the hill. The garden was very rocky, but she could still grow many vegetables in it. As she aged, the garden moved up the hill, becoming increasingly smaller, until it reached the backyard. Around her house were flower gardens and shrubs of many varieties.
Lillian loved the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays as it provided the opportunities for the whole family to gather. She enjoyed the lively banter which always seemed to be quite prevalent at these occasions.
She is survived by son Douglas and wife Renee, sister Betty, daughters-in-law Judy and Candy, four grandchildren Kimberley, Amy, Leeman, and Katie. One great grandson Baylor and several nieces and nephews. Lillian was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Frank, sons Gary and Frank (Dinky), and brother Neal. The family would like to thank Total Care Solutions in Holden, Marlene Walker (Lillian’s “Missy”) and Charlene Wallace for the love and care they gave to Lillian. We know she was very appreciative
