Lester R. Sprague, 91, passed away peacefully at home December 3, 2022 with his four daughters at his side. He was born in Ellsworth, April 16, 1931, son of Pearle and Edna (Billings) Sprague.
Lester attended Ellsworth schools where he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, and football. He was an avid outdoorsman, hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Korean War. Lester and his wife Harriet celebrated 67 years together. They enjoyed playing cards and traveling with special friends.
He is survived by daughters, Katherine Clark, Lynda Baum and husband Joseph, Christine Donovan and husband Shaun, Rosemary Hawkes and husband Donnie; grandchildren, Sara Rideout, Tracey Glinko, Keely Widdlecombe, Tucker Baum, Sam Hawkes, Kaylyn Keane, and Buster Brown; twelve great-grandchildren; many caring nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Harriet; brother, Glen and wife Mary; sister, Lois Preble; and great-grandson, Samuel L. Hawkes, Jr.
Interment will be held at the Frost Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendsway.org, in remembrance of his great-grandson, Sammy Hawkes.
