Obituary for Leo "George" M.Gascon

Leo Mathew “George” Gascon, 91, died peacefully with his family by his side Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. He was born December 2, 1922 in Lisbon Falls, NY., the son of the late Edgar and Eleanor (Leflar) Gascon.
George graduated from Hammond High School in Hammond, NY in 1940 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1946. During his military career, he was stationed in Guam, Okinawa, Germany, Morocco, Japan, Midway and The Azores. He was also stationed at military bases around the United States and retired from his military career in 1966. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, George returned to Maine and ran the business he purchased in 1956, the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound. You could always count on George with his bright yellow hat, tending the cookers from spring to fall. He always enjoyed seeing the customers from year to year. George was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing with his son-in-law, grandson and friends. George’s greatest love was his family. Always there to help and enjoy free time together.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Gertrude (Dunbar) Gascon of Trenton; daughter, Josette Gascon Pettegrow and husband Anthony “Cubby” Pettegrow of Lamoine; his pride and joy and only grandson, Warren Pettegrow and wife, Monica (Chipman) Pettegrow of Trenton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Gascon, who he enjoyed countless fishing days with; brothers, Hank, Buster, and Edgar Gascon; sister, Eleanor (Gascon) McGuire.
Graveside services will be held, 11:00AM, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor with Rev. Charles Kelley officiating. A reception will follow at Harbor Ridge, Freeman Ridge Road, Southwest Harbor.
In lieu of flowers, contribution’s in Leo’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to a charity of one’s choice.
