Obituary for Lena May Wallace

Northeast Harbor
Lena May Wallace, 84, died April 25, 2021 at her home in Northeast Harbor with her family by her side. She was born April 7, 1937 on Cranberry Island, the daughter of Erwin L. and Louise (Gilley) Spurling.
Lena graduated from Mount Desert High School in 1955. On April 21, 1956 she married William Wallace and they made their home in Northeast Harbor. Lena was a bookkeeper for several family business’s including: CE Wallace Plumbing & Heating, MDI Service Corp, E.G. Jordan, Coastal Energy, Tom Bowden, Jon Gray and Joey James. She also, in her later years, spent the summers selling tickets for the Beal and Bunker Mail Boat. Lena enjoyed knitting and watching the Celtics. She was on the board of the Mount Desert Medical Center. Lena loved animals and birds. For years she was a dog sitter for many.
Lena is survived by her son Thomas Wallace and his wife Allyson, of Northeast Harbor; grandchildren, Aimee Stockfis and Brandon of Sarasota, FL and Benjamin Wallace of Northeast Harbor; a brother Leslie Spurling and wife Norma of Bar Harbor; a special niece Jennifer Spurling-Gibson and her children of Ellsworth and many other nieces and nephews; special caregivers Shelby, Carlie, Martha and Nancy; her feline companion, Belle Belle. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband William on January 22, 2020.
A private family service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor. Those who desire may make contributions in Lena’s memory to the Mount Desert Nursing Association, PO Box 397, Northeast Harbor 04662 or the SPCA of Hancock County, 141 Bar Harbor Road, Trenton 04605.
