Obituary for Katherine A. Hamor

Bar Harbor

Katherine A. Hamor, 72, passed peacefully on October 17, 2022, with family by her side. She was born on August 27, 1950, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Hoyt P. and Nancy (Morrison) Hamor.

Kathy graduated from Bar Harbor High School in 1968 and the University of Maine in 1972 and went on to receive her master’s degree in education from University of Southern Maine.

She spent a few fun winters in Florida with friends before she settled in South Portland, Maine area in 1975. Kathy started a long career with L.L. Bean while also working at the Merry Manor restaurant, before working many years in the South Portland school system. She was a devout parishioner of St Alban’s Episcopal Church in Cape Elizabeth, St Saviour’s Episcopal Church, and Church of our Father in Bar Harbor. Kathy also served her community by being on many committees in her area.

Kathy was her happiest when she could spend time with her family and many wonderful friends and, of course her dogs! She was constantly in touch with everyone she knew, either by sending notes, phone calls, walks in the park or the many photos she loved to share. She enjoyed her family and friend get togethers and traveling. She was always on the go! Kathy’s true love was for her golden retrievers Molly, Phoebe and Sally and you could find her every day walking her dog at Ft Williams where she was a proud member of her dog walking group. Phoebe was also a service/ compassion dog that Kathy took for visits at various Portland hospitals. She was also involved in the Golden Retriever Rescue Organization.

Kathy is survived by her sister, Barbara Hamor Stoneman, brother in-law, Larry Stoneman, and nephews Tanner and Connor Stoneman of North Palm Beach Florida and Bar Harbor Maine, along with many cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, Julia A. Hamor and brother, Charles L. Hamor. Kathy will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Birch Bay Village for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Kathy, along with Beacon Hospice staff.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held 1:30pm, May 25, 2023 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth, 04107. Graveside Services will be held 1pm, May 26 at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.

Donations in Kathy’s memory may be sent to SPCA of Hancock County Maine at 141 Bar Harbor RD Trenton, Maine 04605.
