Obituary for Journey Rose Gartner

Lamoine
Journey Rose Gartner, Mighty Warrior Princess, graduated from her earthly mission on July 8, 2023, at her home, held in the loving arms of her family. Journey made her triumphant entry into this world on November 6, 2012, in American Fork, UT and couldn’t have been more cherished by her parents and big sister Aspen. She was a beautiful baby, her big blue eyes, long eyelashes, and an adorable smattering of freckles across her cheeks stopped even strangers in their tracks to comment on how pretty she was.

She was a combination of spunky and sassy and stubborn and shy, silly and stoic, serious and sure. And perceptive to everything around her. She could remember events so accurately; she would often correct her parents if they got the details wrong in retelling a story. She became a big sister at 18 months and again when she was 5. She adored those little brothers and took it as her personal responsibility to keep them in check! She was loyal to her siblings and loved them fiercely. When Journey was 5, her family moved across the country to Maine, where she found a love of lobster and the sea. She and her brothers formed strong bonds with cousins while playing at the beach, gathering shells, and making huts in the woods. She loved to swim so much we thought she might turn into a mermaid; it’s no wonder Ariel was her favorite princess!

Just after her 8th birthday, Journey was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare form of blood cancer. The only hope for a cure was a bone marrow transplant. She went on to receive three bone marrow transplants, one in Boston from her baby brother, one in Memphis from her daddy, and one in NYC from an umbilical cord donor. The disease kept coming back and although it would never be stronger than her spirit, her sweet little body couldn’t fight it off forever. Journey fought to the very end and kept faith that God could heal her. He must have bigger plans for her, because He took her home to live with Him. Journey leaves behind a wake of grieving fans, including her Dad David, Mom Melanie, Sister Aspen, Brother in-law Chance, Brothers Elijah and Ezra, Grandparents Rosemary Wilson, Ted and Carol Gartner, 8 aunts and 8 uncles, 37 cousins, and a multitude of second cousins and friends who feel like siblings. She joins her big sister Mercy, little brother Matthew, Grandpas and countless others who were undoubtedly waiting with open arms for her at the gates of heaven. She will be missed by so many earthside who were inspired by her faith and indominable strength. We will NEVER stop loving you, baby girl!
