Obituary for Jill Elayne Banks
Hancock
Jill Elayne (Kelley) Banks, 83, passed peacefully at Northern Light’s Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth October 30, 2023, with her children in attendance. She was born on May 10, 1940, in Ellsworth, to Walter, Sr., and Frances (Closson) Kelley.
Jill graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1958 where her class voted her ”Most Friendly.” That description followed her throughout her life as she sought to love God and others well, including her family, the people she worked with and the many people who knew her in the community. She was deeply loved by her family, immediate and extended, and everyone she met over the years. Also, Jill enjoyed being a member of Bible Baptist Church of Hancock, Maine.
She is survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Hancock) Zacharias and husband, Daniel of Grandview, MO with their children; son, Mark Hancock and wife Rebecca of Mechanicville, NY with their children and their families; daughter, Sheryl (Hancock) Edgecomb and husband Steven of Hancock with their children, and stepdaughter, Diane (Banks) Shaw and husband Michael of Dudley, MA with children and families. She is also survived by sister, Marilyn Blaisdell of Milford; brothers, twin Jack Kelley and partner Marti Flint of Ellsworth; brother, Richard Kelley and partner Dorothy Epstein of Jacksonville, NC; sisters-in-law Lucy Kelley of Seal Cove, and Dr. Karen L.M. Kelley of Searsport. She was predeceased by husband Samuel Banks (2018}; son, James Hancock (2020); brothers Walter Kelley Jr, David Kelley and his wife Joyce Kelley, and Rexford Kelley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bible Baptist Church at 986 U.S. HWY 1 in Hancock, on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 1 p.m., followed by a reception at the church. She will be interred at a private family service later at Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth.
