Ellsworth and Franklin
James R. McDonald, 64, passed away peacefully March 23, 2013 surrounded by his family ending his long battle with diabetes. The Red Sox nation has lost a devoted fan. He was born in Machias, June 5, 1948 the son of Roderick E. and June K. (Chadwick) McDonald, he kindled many friendships along his life’s journey.
Jim achieved Eagle Scout status with Local troop 86 and was a graduate of Ellsworth High School. He had a passion for all sports and excelled at varsity x-country and baseball. Also many bowling and softball teams were able to benefit from his athletic skill. He graduated from Beal College with an Associate Degree. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era and served with the Air National Guard. Jim was a past member of the Ellsworth Kiwanis. He also provided devoted care and compassion to the residents while employed at the Hope House in Bangor. Jim will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his son, James C. McDonald of Penobscot; sisters, Cheryl Smith of Southwest Harbor, Alma Bonney and husband Michael of Old Town, Julliette McDonald of Bangor, Monica McDonald and friend Randy of Ellsworth; brothers, John McDonald and wife Dee-Anne, Tom McDonald and wife Karen all of Ellsworth; many relatives including special “Auntie Alma” Vane of Machias, “Uncle Fred” Chadwick of Hampton, NH; and special ladies in his life, Melanie, Shorty and Lisa.
Jim received great care from Linda and the special caregivers at Mt. Vista, Courtland Rehab & Living Center as well as the Ellsworth Dialysis Center for which the family is so very grateful.
A memorial gathering for friends and family will be scheduled at a later date.
