Obituary for Jack Lynn Grindle
Blue Hill -- Jack L. Grindle, 73, passed away January 10, 2019 at Blue Hill Hospital after a long struggle with vasculitis, a disease he met with grace and humor. He was born December 28, 1945 in Blue Hill, the son of Basil and Nora (Staples) Grindle.
He was a graduate of George Stevens Academy, Class of 1965 and SMVTI in 1967, where he received an Associate’s Degree in building construction. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Sea Bee during the Vietnam War until 1973. Upon discharge he returned home and began his own construction business, Jack's Construction Co., which he operated successfully for 40 years. On July 10, 1982 he married Barbara L. Hurd. They spent countless hours trail riding their horses together. As a lover of the outdoors, he was often hunting, hiking, cutting wood, and riding his tractor on the family homestead in Grindleville. His goofy sense of humor, down to earth sensibility, and happy go lucky personality will be forever cherished and missed.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of 36 years; son, Wade and wife Therese Grindle of Blue Hill; step-daughter, Lindley (Holbrook) and husband Daniel Gray of Ellsworth; step-son, Donald Holbrook and wife Erica of Dana Point, CA; sister, Barbara M. Grindle; brothers, Thomas and wife May, Roger and wife Susan; two grandchildren, Alexandra Holbrook and Jasper Grindle; brother-in-law, Raymond McVay and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents; a sister Jane McVay; brother, Robert Grindle and brother-in-law Burt Grindle.
Calling Hours will be Friday, Jan. 25th, from 5-7pm, and a Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, January 26th at 1pm at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, ME.
Memorial contributions in Jack's name may be made to The Duffy-Wescott Post 85 P.O. Box 531 Blue Hill, ME 04614 for repairs to their building.
Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in the spring.
