Obituary for Hope O. Sweet

Bar Harbor
Hope Kyren (Otis) Sweet, 81, died September 15, 2012 in Bar Harbor. She was born June 7, 1931 in Watertown, NY, the daughter of Ronald W. and Dorothy (Prichard) Otis.
Hope graduated from Rome Free Academy, Rome, NY in 1948 and Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY in 1952 with a BS in biology. She was employed as a research assistant at the Jackson Laboratory, retiring as senior Professional Assistant, supervisor, of Mouse Mutant Resources in 1996 after 30 years of consecutive service.
Hope was author and collaborative author of several scientific papers and articles, a former member of Beta Beta Beta, a biological fraternity and the American Genetics Society, and was a life time member of Zeta Tan Alpha Gamma Lambda chapter, a national fraternity.
Hope married Marcus C. Sweet of Bar Harbor on October 29, 1957, in Rome, NY and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2007.
She is survived by one son, Ronald M. Sweet of Bar Harbor; brother, David P. Otis and wife, Patricia of Otis; sister, Abigail D. Morton and husband, Lynn of New Hartford, NY; nephew, Richard D. Otis and wife, Amy, and daughters Mary Ashley, and Halle Nichole of Glendale, AZ; two nieces, Deborah K. Otis of Rome, NY and Christine C. Otis of Philadelphia, PA; brothers-in-law, John C. Sweet and wife, Geraldine of Bar Harbor, Hoyt C. Sweet and wife, Venita of Ballston Lake, NY, William F. Sweet and wife, Mary of Searsport, ME; sister-in-law, Arlene “Lenny” Sweet of Bar Harbor; special friend, Eva Mae Norton of Nassau, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
Hope was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Marcus C. Sweet; sister-in-law, R. Isabel Dresser of East Holden; and brother-in-law, Jerome H. Sweet and wife, Joyce of Clearwater, FL.
Friends are invited to call 5-7pm, Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main Street, Mt. Desert. Funeral Services will be held 1pm, Friday, Sept. 21 at Bar Harbor Congregational Church, 29 Mt. Desert Street, Bar Harbor with Rev. Dr. Sandra M. Reed officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Hulls Cove.
