Obituary for Helene D. Williams

Helene D. Williams, 89 went on to be with her Lord and Savior on December 22, 2021. She was born October 4, 1932, in Brattleboro, VT., the daughter of Frank Earl and Doris Leone (Covey) Cripps.

She was married to Elmer C. “Bud” Williams on October 8, 1955, at the Congregational Church in Peru, MA. Her husband died on March 17, 2001. Helene lived the early part of her life in West Brattleboro, Brattleboro and West Dummerston, Vermont until the family moved to the Berkshires in Massachusetts. She attended schools in Hinsdale and Pittsfield, MA, as well as West Dummerston, VT and the Oak Grove and Green Street schools in Brattleboro. She was a pro merito graduate from Pittsfield High School in 1950.

She held secretarial and administrative positions throughout her life which included the C.D. Heb Insurance Agency and The Naval Ordinance Department at the General Electric Company of Pittsfield, the law firm of Marks, Gray, Yates and Conroy in Jacksonville, FL, and Savage Arms Corporation of Chicopee Falls, MA. She was elected to the office of the Town Clerk in Windsor, MA during the early 1960’s and worked at Dartmouth Medical Center in Hanover, NH from 1978 until January 2, 1998, at which time she retired. Having lived in many states across the country, she settled in Lebanon, NH until the recent 8 years during which she resided in Maine. Helene’s favorite pleasures were family rides and picnics and keeping up with her grade school and high school classmates through the years.

Helene is survived by three sons; Jeffrey R. Williams of Lebanon, NH, John C. Williams and wife, April of Glen Mills, PA and Charles C. Williams and wife, Anne (Veilleux) of Wolfeboro, NH, two daughters; Sally D. Ives and husband, Charles of Bar Harbor, ME and Jacqueline S. Rich and husband, Wayne of Bass Harbor, ME., ten grandchildren: Nicolas Edward Tokas of York, ME, Colyn Chesley Rich of Bass Harbor, ME, Ava Williams of Arlington, VA, and Chloe Williams of Wolfeboro, NH, Bradley Williams of ME, and Jack, Charlotte and Talia Williams of PA., and Carrie Stein of NH. Five great-grandchildren: Olivia, Eleanor and Alexander Tokas of ME and Sari and Lyla Stein of NH.
She was predeceased by two brothers: Earl F. Cripps and Chelsey Gary Cripps, and a sister, Laura Z. Pelkey, and grandson Brandon Allan Tokas.

Graveside Services will be held in the spring at Meeting House Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, VT.
