Obituary for Hayden Mayo Soule Jr.

Hayden M. “Pete” Soule, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at home from lung cancer on March 28, 2015 surrounded by his family. Pete was born in Bangor on July 8, 1932, son of Grace and Hayden Soule, Sr
He spent four years in the Navy Seabees, then began his affiliation with the University of Maine, first as a student and then as a professor of Agricultural Engineering for 40 years. A lifelong learner, he was a dedicated and passionate teacher. Pete was instrumental in the creation of the Page Farm and Home Museum at UMaine. He was a long-time resident of Orono, and retired to Hancock Point. Pete was a master woodworker, and with Jeanne, built a beautiful home in Hancock. He is remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and hearty laugh, his whistling, and big hugs. He loved his family and friends deeply.
Pete was the beloved husband for 56 years of Jeanne Cook Soule; devoted father of Terry Soule Witowsky (Bill), Scott Soule (Elizabeth), and Kathryn Soule; proud grandfather of Laura, Shelby, Kelly and Wyatt; brother of Grace “Gay” Bogard (Ray Gilhooley); son-in-law of Marjorie Cook; and brother-in-law of Barry Cook (Patricia), Brian Cook (Joline), Patrick Cook (Nadine), and Jay Cook (Cindy).
A memorial gathering will be held for family and friends at the Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth on Thursday, April 2, from 4:00-6:00 pm, with the last half hour a time of sharing memories.
