Obituary for Gage Kurtis Johnson

Gage Kurtis Johnson, from Mount Desert, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 25, 2024. His passing has broken the hearts of many. Gage was kind, smart, funny, and his smile brought light to every room he entered. Following his graduation from Mount Desert Island High School in June 2023, he had recently begun his second semester at Eastern Maine Community College in the automotive tech program where he could show off his passion and knowledge of cars.

Born on November 18, 2004, in Ellsworth, Maine, to parents Bethany (Barnard) Heniser and Kurtis Johnson, Gage was loved by all who met him. The person Gage loved most in the world was born in early 2007, his sister Iris. For many years, Gage and Iris would adventure together in their hometown of Machiasport, learning and facing the world as two peas in the same pod. Gage became a big brother to two additional siblings, Emma and Ezra who adored and idolized him. More recently, Gage accepted his role as oldest sibling in a blended family, which included his stepsiblings Landon and Kensley.

Gage was easy-going and compassionate. He was a loyal friend. If you asked for his help, he would give it. Gage’s humor would often sneak up on you. He was smart, clever, and creative. He loved all things to do with cars and playing video games with friends. For many, his loss has left a hole that will never be filled.
Gage is predeceased by his father, Kurtis Johnson; his grandfathers, Paul Johnson, and Steven Barnard; his uncle, Darrell Johnson; his great grandparents, Carolyn and Allen Johnson, Llewellyn Corbett, and Dorothy Muzzy.

Gage leaves behind his mother, Bethany; stepfather, Michael; siblings Iris, Emma, Ezra, Landon, and Kensley; grandmothers Cathy Johnson and Charlene Monzo, step grandparents Robert and Janice Heniser; great grandmother Rose Corbett; great grandparents Richard and Barbara Roussell; aunt and uncles Sarah and Beau Scott, Ashley and Geoff Hadam, and Justin Barnard; and more extended family and friends than can be named or counted.

A service will be held on March 2 at 11am at Machias Christian Fellowship which is located at 3 Davis Rd in Machias. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting you bring a written memory you have of Gage for them to read and cherish in the years to come.
