Obituary for Ethtelyn Woodye

Blue Hill
Ethtelyn Woodye of Blue Hill, 54, passed away at home in Blue Hill, with her family nearby, on October 12, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ethtelyn had a fighting spirit and her mind was sharp and strong right up to her last breath. She was born in Punta Gorda, Belize, January 14, 1967, to Ethelyn Woodye and Wilson Woodrow Woodye; she was the youngest child. She graduated from Toledo Community College High School in Belize. Ethtelyn moved to Maine in 1993. While adapting to life in a new country and learning to love the Maine winter, she raised her three children working at several jobs. She was an exemplary care giver, chef, cleaner, and for the past 10 years worked at George Stevens Academy.
While her children were growing up, Ethtelyn volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and served on the Christian Education Board at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill. A loving and creative teacher, she generously shared Belizean dance, cooking and culture with the congregation. Ethtelyn was full of life, and she enjoyed the beauty of nature. She also loved animals, especially eagles and horses. Some of her favorite joys were dressing up and venturing out to take pictures, hiking and yoga, collecting jewelry and antique artifacts, as well as music and dance. She was a big Michael Jackson fan and she use to dress like him. Ethtelyn was an old soul, but a young and vibrant spirit. Her beauty was timeless, and she always had this big, gorgeous smile.
