Earl (“Mo”) R. Moser, Jr. died unexpectedly November 23, 2019. He was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey on October 25, 1933 to Earl R. Moser, Sr. and Hazel R. Moser. Mo grew up in Phillipsburg N.J. and graduated from high school there. During high School he excelled in academics and baseball. He then enlisted in the Navy for four years, which brought him to Maine for the first time where he met his wife Barbara (Kenney) Moser. He moved back to his hometown after his Naval service and started his working career. He moved to Maine in 1961 and would live there the rest of his life. He enjoyed working many years at Mount Desert Island High School and at the “Bluenose” ferry terminal in Bar Harbor until it closed in 2009. He made many friends and touched many lives in the 58 years he lived in Maine. The following words of his close friends Jay and Alicia Scribner describe “Mo” in a very special way: “Mo, in his quiet and humble way, had a big impact on his community, his friends, and so many of the young people growing up on The Island. His many years working with teachers, school staff, school district leaders and coaches within the MDI high school system. His incalculable acts of kindness, generosity, and helpfulness to his friends and the devotion he showed to his favorite sport, baseball, and the young men who played for him at the high school and summer leagues, were but a few of the ways he was so special to so many of us. Even one of our sons had the pleasure of learning the game of baseball under his coaching.” He had more close friends than can be listed in this obituary but know many hold him dear in their hearts. He is survived by his sister Jean Moore of Moscow, PA and his brother John (“Jack”) Moser and his wife Doris of Easton, PA. His sisters-in-law Ruth Jellison and Jane Kenney of Southwest Harbor, and brother-in-law Felton Kenney and his wife Peggy of Boise, Idaho. He is also survived by his niece Aimee Williams and nephews George Jellison of Southwest Harbor and Michael Kenney of Boise, ID as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara K. Moser, by his parents, and his sister Betty Jenkins. In keeping with his request there will be no services. If desired, donations in Earl’s memory may be made to the SWH Historical Society Capital Campaign or the SWH Library.
