Obituary for Duane Barry Gray

Blue Hill
Duane Barry Gray died unexpectedly September 16, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Blue Hill, May 9, 1946 the son of Warren and Mildred (Leighton) Gray.
Duane graduated from George Stevens Academy as valedictorian of his class in 1964 and graduated from Massachusetts School of Pharmacy in 1969. He worked as a pharmacist for Partridge Drug Store, the Blue Hill Hospital, LaVerdiere’s, Rite Aid and was currently employed by Community Pharmacy at Tradewinds Market Place where he will be missed by all he served. Duane loved sports, watching and playing. He was a two time state champ in slow pitch softball, his teammates would cringe every time he did his famous basket catch. Duane never dropped the ball. He also played basketball with his Sunday night crew. He had a passion for golf, as soon as the pins were on the greens, the golf season started that next Sunday at 7:00 a.m. He was also a public servant who was currently serving as Chairman of the Selectmen of Blue Hill. He had a great love for the Blue Hill cemeteries and their well being. Duane loved his town of Blue Hill and all of the people he served. He was a member of the Blue Hill Masons for 42 years, ‘Puppet Master’ of the Blue Hill Lodge #79 and was a member for 42 years being the glue that held the lodge together and member of the Rebekah’s of Blue Hill. He recently received the Grand Lodge I.O.O.F. of Maine Certificate of Perfection. Duane bled the three rings, Friendship, Love and Truth.
He is survived by his daughters, Melanie of Ellsworth, Annemarie of Scarborough; sons, Adam and his wife Candace, and Andrew all of Blue Hill; brothers, Donald and his wife Patricia and Robert and his wife Kathy both of Blue Hill; he was an uncle to Jon and Nicole of Sedgwick, Bill of Blue Hill, Tom and Sharon and their daughter, Tiffany of Holden, Jim and Kat and their daughter, Hannah of Freeport, Larry and Carol and their son, Josh of Bucksport, Greg, Dan and Linley all of Blue Hill; granddaughter, Caelan; mothers of his children, Bonnie Paulas of Brooksville and Susan Anton of Saco.
Friends are invited to gather with the family 1:00pm, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the George Stevens Academy gymnasium with a reception to follow in the cafeteria.
