Donald “Donnie” J. Parsons, 57 died unexpectedly, April 12th, 2021 at his home in Hancock. He was born August 31st, 1963 in Bar Harbor, the son of Gary A. Parsons and Mary H. (Liscomb) Parsons. Donnie graduated from MDI High School, class of 1982. Donnie played football all four years of high school, receiving his letterman Sophomore year. Following graduation, Donnie worked various construction and landscaping jobs across Mount Desert Island. As a full time career, he worked alongside his father lobster fishing, on the Mark A. After his father’s passing he continued to operate the Mark A. and carried on the Parsons’ fisherman legacy. In addition to commercial fishing, Donnie loved recreational fishing of all sorts, including tuna fishing, ice fishing and shark fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family on the Makayla’s Way fishing boat and watching his children play sports. After retiring from lobster fishing, Donnie enjoyed going out and spending time with his children and sisters. Many adventures were had, including attending local events, going to Bob Marely concerts and stopping by a local steakhouse for a perfectly cooked ribeye steak. During football season he was a dedicated Pittsburg Steelers fan and was known to never miss a game.
Donnie is survived by his daughter, Makayla Parsons and her husband Vaughn, of Ellsworth. Sons Marcus Parsons and Race Parsons; daughter Marina Parsons, all of Bar Harbor. Two sisters, Brenda Parsons-Landry and her wife Tracey and Debbie Parsons, all of Bar Harbor: Special friends, Steve Brown and wife Tricia of Cherryfield; Allan Black of Bar Harbor; Kim Hamblen of Bar Harbor and several other family members including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousin. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Mark and nephew Ben. A private service for close family and special friends was held Saturday April 17th, 2021.
