Obituary for Donald Martin Frost

DONALD MARTIN FROST, 93 BAR HARBOR

Donald Martin Frost, 93, passed away peacefully on August 8. He was born May 18, 1927, in Bar Harbor, to Carroll E. and Sadie Marie (Daigle) Frost.

A U. S. Navy veteran, Donald served honorably during WWII and the Korean War. Upon discharge, he began a long career as an auto mechanic at a number of local garages, including Kebo Garage, Etscovitz Garage and Morang-Robinson. Later in life, Donald worked for The Jackson Laboratory, where he retired as a machinist.

He was a dedicated family man, a loyal friend, neighbor, and cherished member of the Island community where he will be missed by many. In addition to his time on the Island, Donald, his wife and family, spent many, many weekends camping at Parks Pond where he enjoyed the summers and made life-long friendships. Donald’s greatest passion, however, was being a licensed amateur radio operator for more than 50 years under the call sign K1WJY, a hobby that included membership in the Ellsworth Amateur Wireless Association and the American Radio Relay League. He was also a life member of the American Legion and a member of St. Savior’s Episcopal Church, Bar Harbor.

He is survived by a son, Thomas Frost of Calais, VT, and two daughters, Nykki Grindle and her husband Thomas of Seal Harbor, and Paula Lamoureux and her husband Peter of Southwest Harbor; Grandchildren, Christopher Stanley and his wife Ellen of Hancock, Michelle Perry and her husband Galen of Phoenix, AZ, and Samuel Frost of Calais, VT; Great granddaughters, Sadie Mae Perry of Phoenix, AZ, and Emma Jean Stanley of Hancock; and a brother, Robert, of Ellsworth. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Mollie H. Frost; brothers Carroll Jr. and Richard Frost; sisters Elizabeth “Betty” Ashmore, Connie Jalbert, and F. Patricia Thomas.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers at the Sonogee Residential Care Facility and the Courtland Rehabilitation & Living Center for the care and compassion they showed Donald in his later years.

A graveside service will take place on Saturday, August 22, at 10 a.m. at Ledgelawn Cemetery in Bar Harbor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Donald’s memory to Courtland Activities Program, 42 Bucksport Rd., Ellsworth, ME 04605
