Obituary for Donald R. Duym

Blue Hill
Don passed away peacefully Thursday night April 11, 2013 at Courtland Rehabilitation and Living Center, Ellsworth, ME. He was born June 24, 1922, in Union City, NJ to John and Matie (Teets) Duym.
Don grew up in Cliffside, NJ until completion of aircraft school at the Aeronautical Academy in 1942. He then moved to Houlton as a mechanic for the Air Transport Command. He continued to work in Maine, first for Northeast Airlines and then Delta Airlines until his retirement in 1981. He married Margaret Brindley and had three sons John (Rusty), Howard and Thomas. The family moved to Blue Hill, Margaret's birthplace, in 1959. From a passion for boating, Don founded Blue Hill Yacht Sales on property next to Seaside Cemetery in 1968. He sold the business and property in 1989 and lived at Parker Ridge Retirement Community until 2011. In addition to his long career in the airline industry, Don was a honorary member of the Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club, and a former Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Blue Hill.
He is survived by a brother Wade Duym and sons, Howard E. Duym and partner Viola G. Brown, and Thomas H. and wife Amy F. Duym; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret and son, Rusty.
Visiting hours will be 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St. Blue Hill. He will be interred at Seaside Cemetery overlooking his former business and home.
