Obituary for Dennis S. Coffey
ELLSWORTH – Dennis S. Coffey, 73, passed away after a brief illness on February 3, 2024. He was born in Revere, MA on September 22, 1950, the son of Joseph and Martha (Evans) Coffey.
Dennis graduated from Swampscott High School and completed training to be an electronic technician at Mass Radio Institute. He moved to Ellsworth, Maine in 1971, built his own business, Ellsworth Audio Company, serving music lovers in his community for 48 years with his own particular combination of zeal, talent, deep knowledge, and a strong streak of independence.
He was passionate in his many interests including music, travel, canoeing, motorcycling, cooking, history, and boating in Blue Hill Bay. Above all he loved his family and lifelong friends. His idiosyncratic sense of humor and fun required complete commitment to “the bit”, and he’d do almost anything for a laugh.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Monica, his daughter Colleen and partner Thom, sons Christopher and wife Amber, Craig, and partner Sally; his former wife Sharon; his stepsons Sean and wife Erica, Peter, and wife Val; along with his much beloved grandchildren, Aeryka, Emmaline, Sebastian, Fiona, Eva, Gregory and Devan; his siblings Don and Donielle.
A private gathering will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to Hope House Health and Living Center, 179 Corporate Drive, Bangor, Maine 04401.
