Obituary for Carey N. Lewis

Carey N. Lewis, 80, died April 1, 2016 in Southwest Harbor. He was born February 8, 1936 in Southwest Harbor, the son of Fred and Eudora (Kane) Lewis.

He graduated from Pemetic High School, Southwest Harbor in 1954. Following that, he spent 4 years serving in the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge he attended Parks College in E. St. Louis, Illinois for aeronautical technology. Carey spent many years on the sardine carriers for Stinson Canning Company. In later years he worked for a short time for M.L. Pettegrow & Sons. He married Patricia (Gray) Lewis in 1963, they were together for over 52 years. He was a long time member of the “Grumpy Old Men” from the Southwest Harbor Congregational Church on the High Road. This group has done a great deal of work to help the church when it has needed repair.

Carey is survived by his wife, Patricia, son, David of Southwest Harbor and a grandson, Parker of Sterling, VA., one sister, Anita (Lewis) Beebe and husband,
Peter of So. Dennis, MA., many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Verna Susan Duffus and a brother, Walter.

Memorial services will be held, 2:00PM, Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the Southwest Harbor Congregational Church, 29 High Rd., with Pastor Blake Brown officiating.
