Ellsworth
Calvin Abner Weed, 86, died October 15, 2019 at his home. He was born in Bangor, May 03, 1933, the son of George Everett and Marjorie Loantha (Seavey) Weed.
Cal grew up in Bangor and Hampden, while attending Hampden Academy he played football, baseball and basketball. Cal served in the US Army (1953-55). After returning home from the service he met the love of his life, Ellen Scott and they were married in 1955. Cal worked 10 years for Sears & Roebuck Co. and in 1965 Cal and the family moved to Ellsworth where in 1970 they opened the Sew & Save Shop which he was so proud of. He served as a city councilor and past mayor, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Lygonia Lodge of Ellsworth and Warren Lodge of East Machias.
Cal was an extremely kind and generous person, he loved golfing with friends, caring for the yard and home, working on restoring antiques, caning chairs, and woodworking projects for family and friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen A Linehan and husband James of Bangor, Sue Ellen Parkes of New London, NH ,Terri L. Cormier and husband Patrick of Ellsworth; and son, Steven R. Weed and wife Cherie of Seal Harbor; grandchildren, Flynn, Anna and Conor Linehan, Avery and Talia Parkes and Aislinn Crosby, Benjamin and Elizabeth “Grace” Weed; great grandson Leslie “Ziggy” Marley; brother in laws Roy Scott, Fernald Scott and his wife Gail, Richard Tuell, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ellen; sisters, Adell Watson and Joan Stewart; brothers, George “Buddy” Weed, Jr and Russell Weed. He is also survived by dear friends Seldon and Marilyn Blethen.
Memorial Services will be held 1pm, Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
