Obituary for Betty Griffin Ray

Ellsworth
Betty Griffin Ray, beloved wife of George M Ray, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by the love and support of her family on Nov. 17, 2022, at the age of 89. Betty was born on March 31, 1933, in Southwest Harbor to Ray and Lillian (Forbis) Griffin.
Betty graduated from Ellsworth High School with the class of 1950. Soon after, she married George, her husband of 66 years. George and Betty raised five children while operating multiple businesses.
Betty lived her life with grace and integrity. She was an active member of her community. She was an avid golfer, skilled bridge player, excellent gardener and a talented artist and craftswoman. Most importantly, Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Betty is survived by all five of her children. George Jr., and his wife Carole of Ellsworth; Jayne Wixon and her husband David of Surry; Dan, and his partner Nadine of Surry; Tim and his wife Danielle of Somesville; and Dawna Archer and her husband Earle of Surry. She was “Grammie B” to 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister Alice Upton of Lamoine and many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her parents, her husband, George, her brother Billy Griffin and sister Joy Mayo.
Interment will be at the Remick Cemetery with a committal service for both George and Betty at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
