Obituary for Barbara Ruth Boyce

Barbara Ruth (Johnson) Boyce, 90, a much-loved Mom to 5, Grammie to 20, Great-Gram to 24 and growing, sister, cousin, and friend, passed away at home to join her beloved husband, George L. Boyce in Heaven on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. She was born June 14, 1929 on Swan’s Island the first child of Oscar and Harriet (LeMoine) Johnson.
Mom was educated on Swan’s Island to 8th grade then attended Stonington High School. Dad and Mom caught each other’s eyes as teenagers and married on December 4, 1947 enjoying over 50 years together filled with family, friends and the love of dancing. In 1961, while Dad continued fishing, they started Boyce’s Motel which became mainly Mom’s job. This grew into a successful respected business that Mom was so proud of.
Mom is survived by her dear sister, Brenda Witham; her loving children Ted and Zelda Boyce, Cathy Boyce, Becky and Larry Gray, Jeff and Kelly Boyce, George D. and Holly Boyce; grandchildren, Lisa and Steve Graziano, Amy Boyce, Ted Boyce II, Shawn Kunkel and Kasi, Joshua Kunkel and Maryjka, Jason Kunkel and Andrea, Ryan Kunkel, Amanda Larrabee and Meghan, Angelina Lucas, Barrett Gray, Meredith Gray and Garrett, Bennett Gray and Cayce, Justin Boyce and Rachel, Kyla Boyce and Matt, Anna Woosley and Ryan, Jay-Neal Boyce, Holli Boyce, Donovan Boyce and Kelly, Johnson Boyce and Traci, Harrison Boyce and Asia, plus the growing number of great-grandchildren; many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and many she called her extra kids. She was predeceased by her parents; dearly loved husband; sister, Betty Lawson and brother, Neal Johnson.

Visiting hours will be held 4:00-6:00, January 21, 2020 at the Stonington Methodist Church with a celebration of life at 2:00 January 22nd. Please join the family immediately following the service with a gathering at Barb’s long-time home at Boyce’s Motel.
A private burial was held at Evergreen cemetery, Stonington on June 12, 2020 at 11am.
