Obituary for Anne Richardson Johnson

Anne Richardson Johnson, 87, formerly of West Hartford CT and Boca Grande FL, died December 14, 2023 at home in Blue Hill, Maine. She was born on June 19, 1936 to Frank E. Richardson Jr.(Bud) and Rosamound Richardson, in Sewickley PA.

Anne graduated from The Westover School in 1954 and earned a B.A. from Connecticut College in 1958 and a Masters in Social Work from U. Conn in 1978. She subsequently worked at the U. Conn School of Social Work, Connecticut General Insurance, and at the Connecticut State Capitol.

Anne was very active in the communities where she lived. She volunteered as a docent at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford CT, was the President of the Garden Club of Hartford and was an active member of the Garden Club of America. She was a long-time member of the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford CT, and a member of the Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club in Blue Hill ME and of the Blue Hill Country Club which she served as President for four years. She was known as a cheerful if serious competitor at tennis, golf and paddle tennis and in later life for her crack bridge game. Anne and her husband also greatly appreciated the world travel they were able to enjoy after their children were grown.

Anne is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward (Ted) Johnson and her daughters, Elizabeth Johnson (Jim Marrs) of West Hartford CT, Mimi Johnson of Bradenton FL, and Laura Hill (Glenn) of Wellesley MA, and by her adored grandchildren, Timothy, Caroline, John and Eliza Hill. She is also survived by her siblings Frank Richardson (Kimba), Thomas Richardson (Joy), Beth Clements (Robin), Susan Richardson, and John Richardson (Renee) and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Gray.

A service will be held next summer in Blue Hill, Maine.
