Obituary for Burgess Knowles

Ellsworth – Burgess Knowles, 85, died peacefully September 6, 2018 after a long illness. He was born December 15, 1932 in Glenburn, the son of Charles H.B. and Marion (Cookson) Knowles.

Burgess was a graduate of Bangor High School, served in the U.S. Army, and later graduated from the University of Maine at Orono. Burgess delivered for Sunshine Biscuit and later served as town manger of the towns of Rangley, Bradley, and Southwest Harbor. He served as Executive Director at The Brewer Housing Authority before joining his wife Annette in opening The Restoration Shop and Store in Ellsworth Falls. Burgess loved to repair and restore antique furniture.

Burgess had been active in the Brewer Kiwanis and helped establish the Kiwanis club at Ellsworth in the early 1980's. More recently he was a member of The Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph's Parish and the American Legion.

Burgess is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Annette (Ouellette) Knowles of Ellsworth; a sister, Mary-Ellen Sargent and husband George of Bangor; four children, 9 step-children, and numerous grand and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Donald Knowles.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday September 12, 2018 at St. Joseph's Church 231 Main Street in Ellsworth. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth followed by a reception at St. Joseph's Parish Hall.
