Jean Merchant Gray, 84, died May 13, 2012 at a healthcare facility in Hancock. She was born in Somesville, April 30, 1928 the daughter of Eugene S. and Mabel A. (Benson) Merchant.

Winter Harbor

Bruce Edward Lanning, Lt. USN.ret., 81, husband of Jan (Crowley) Lanning, passed from this life to eternal life May 9, 2012 at an Ellsworth healthcare facility, the result of the ravages of diabetes. He was born May 31, 1930 in Herkimer, NY, the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Rice) Lanning. Bruce’s grandmothers, Mary MacArthur Lanning and Lizzie McKinnon Rice were Scots and he was so proud of his Scottish heritage.

Ruby Strout Howard, 92, died May 9, 2012 at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. She was born in Harrington, April 13, 1920 the daughter of Ansel and Viola (Kennedy) Strout.

Barbara “Tootie” E. Gray, 55, died peacefully at home in Trenton surrounded by her family and friends, due to a lifelong illness, May 8, 2012. She was born March 31, 1957 in Salem, MA., the daughter of Edward P. and Barbara (Robbins) Gray.

Ellsworth and New York, NY

On May 1, 2012 Kenneth L. Closson was gathered to his ancestors after gracing this planet for 93 years.  

Merrill S. Boynton, 96, died May 1, 2012 at his residence in Lamoine. He was born in Lamoine, May 20, 1915 the son of Chester M. and Mary Elizabeth (West) Boynton.

Niki Scott, long-time resident of Mt. Desert Island, died suddenly at her home on April 26, 2012. She was 68.

Hancock

Jeanette O. (Pierce) Hadlock, 80, died April 24, 2012 at her residence .  She was born in Brooklin February 25, 1932 the daughter of Walter and Esther (Carter) Pierce.

Pat was born Patricia Harvell on August 24th 1918 in Calais, Maine. She was delivered by Dr. Marion at Dr. Myra’s Hospital on Main St. in Calais. Her father was Ernest C. Brown. Her mother was Leonora Balkam Harvell.
