Blue Hill
Martyn Lewis Cutler, 82, died at the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital on June 14, 2012 of Lewy Body Dementia. The son of Elizabeth Carlile and Rev. Henry Lewis Cutler, he was born in 1930 in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was a graduate of the Germantown Friends School in Germantown, Pa and Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Marty was a longtime resident of Florham Park, NJ where he and Gigi raised their family. He was an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and Morris County Golf Club. He was the proud owner of M.L. Cutler and Co., Inc., the insurance agency that he founded in 1959. When he retired, Marty lived in Pinehurst, NC for a few years. Marty spent summers in South Blue Hill, ME since childhood and recently lived there full time. He loved boating on Blue Hill Bay, bird watching, playing golf and gardening. As a member of the Blue Hill Country Club, he was the club’s golf champion in 1970. He and his daughter, Linda, won the Snider Cup in 1981. He was also a member of the Down East Audubon Society and the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Henry Carlile Cutler. Marty is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Gigi (Gladys Merrick Cutler), his son, Peter Merrick Cutler & his wife Wendy Benson of Parsippany, NJ, his daughter Jennifer Collins and her husband Daniel of Randolph, NJ, and daughter Linda Gasowski and her husband Phillip of Gorham, Maine. He is also survived by his grandsons, Sean and Kevin Collins and Tucker and Bennett Gasowski, and his sister Elizabeth Wilson as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital for their outstanding care, as well as Marty’s home caregivers for their love, support and expertise.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill.
