Aurora -- Norene Roderick Silsby, 86, died September 30, 2018 at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor. She was born in Waterville on August 10, 1932 to Albert and Ariel (Bates) Roderick.

Norene graduated from Waterville High School in 1949. A few years after graduation, Norene and her friend Pam Williams moved to Los Angeles and worked for the Hertz Corp. until moving to Denver to work as a stewardess for Continental Airlines for three years. She left Continental Airlines to manage a travel agency in Hartford, CT and eventually returned to Waterville to care for her ailing father while working at Thayer Hospital.

Being a fiercely independent woman, Norene waited 37 years to get married. She met the "Man of Her Dreams" William Silsby Jr. of Ellsworth, ME. They married on November 15, 1969 and have been married for nearly 49 years.

In 1970, being a good business woman, Norene together with Bill owned and operated Twin City Bowling Lanes in Bangor and later built Waterville Bowling Lanes in Waterville.

She is survived by her loving husband William, her four step children, William III, Jonathan, Richard and Bonnie; her nephews, Kelly Dean Wynne, Michael Wynne, Bruce Roderick and their families and many nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Wallace; sister, Marvel and nephew Timothy Wynne.

The family is thankful for the care she received at the Maine Veterans Home.

Calling hours will be held 4:00-6:00, October 5, 2018 at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth where a funeral service will be held October 6th at 1:00 with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating. Private interment will be at a later date.
