Obituary for Robert Gordon "Bob" Sawyer

Ellsworth/Bradenton, FL -- Robert Gordon Sawyer (Bob), 80, passed away on January 13th at Narraguagus Bay Health Care in Milbridge after a six year battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born July 7th, 1937 in Ellsworth son of Malcolm and Hazel Sawyer. Bob was a resident of Ellsworth and Bradenton, Florida.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1957 and served in the US Army stationed in Oklahoma. His Masonic affiliations include membership in the Lygonia Lodge #40, Anah Shrine, and as a founding member of the Anah NASCAR Unit. Bob worked as a Civil Engineer with Lane Construction, MacQuinn Construction, the Bridge Construction Company and Wardwell Construction. His work included building the Maine Turnpike and Interstate System, many airbases throughout New England and local road projects. Most recently Bob worked as a bus driver for Island Explorer. Bob started and ran Sawyer's Market in Hancock (now Tideway Market) with his wife, Nancy Jane and DownEast SuperVac with his son, Mark. He enjoyed dancing, watching New England sports teams, vacations and winters in Bradenton, Florida and golfing with his friend Bill MacLaughlin.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Jane Anderson Sawyer; daughter Shelly of Norwalk Connecticut; son Mark of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Christoph, Alexa, Christina and Jared Sawyer; as well as many nieces and nephews; brother-in-laws, Richard (Bub) Anderson and Jackie Smith. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Hazel Sawyer of Ellsworth; brothers, Richard (Dick) Sawyer and James (Jimmy) Sawyer.

Bob's life will be celebrated informally this spring, details will be provided.
