Obituary for Patricia Davis Frank

Patricia Davis Frank
Ellsworth -- On January 9th, 2018, Alex Trebek lost one of his best contestants, when Patricia Davis Frank, 90, passed away after a long illness. Pat was an avid Jeopardy player, growing a bit frustrated in her late 80’s, not because she didn’t know the answers to almost all of the questions, but because she wasn’t “buzzing in” quite as fast as some of the TV contestants. Pat was an avid nonfiction reader, news watcher and occasional student of Ellsworth’s Adult Education Program, after having attended the University of Maine at Farmington. She was the true definition of a lifelong learner.

Pat was born August 2, 1927 in Lamoine, Maine to Marcia (Belatty) Davis and Harry Davis. As a young girl Pat was very active in athletics, particularly enjoying figure skating. At Ellsworth High School where she graduated in 1945, she participated in many activities, with a passion for competing on the basketball team. During her adult life, that desire to compete continued as she became an excellent bowler and a regular swimmer at the pool.

On Mother's Day, in 1952, she married the love of her life, Charlie. He promised her that he would show her the world and, when his career in the Navy was done, that they could return to Maine if that was what she wanted. For the next 15 years they did just that, living in places as far away as Japan and as close as New York. Upon Charlie's retirement from the Navy, the family settled in Ellsworth.
During much of her life, Pat was a caregiver not only to her three children, but also to her mother, two aunts and, for many years, her husband. She consistently put others before herself. In the more than half century she lived in Ellsworth, Pat participated in many activities and organizations within the community. The First Congregational Church, Ellsworth Library, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and Literacy Volunteers, just to name a few. She had a passion for giving back to the community that had welcomed her and her family home after her time away.

Pat is survived by her three children and their families, son, Lawrence Frank and wife Carole, Jeffrey Frank and wife Janna; daughter, Kristin Gordon and husband Mark; grandchildren, Michael, Peter Petros and wife Wendy, Kelsey, Matthew, Daniel, Kira and Audra; great-grandchidlren, Connor and Sophia; sister-in-laws, Nancy Davis and Leticia Davis; nephews, James and his partner Jennifer Mascaro and Thomas and wife Rebekah; grandnieces, Miranda and Sydney. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Charlie Frank; brothers, James and Thomas Davis; and nephew, Timothy Davis.

A spring ceremony celebrating Pat’s life will be held 1:00 pm, May 12, 2018 at Jordon- Funeral, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory may be made to the First Congregational Church of Ellsworth, P O Box 12, Ellsworth 04605 or Down East Horizons, 77 Union St. Ellsworth 04605
