Obituary for David Currier Graves

Northeast Harbor

David Currier Graves went home to be with his parents, Claire and Harvard on November 22, 2017. David was “Dad” to Benjamin, Ryan, Lisa, Greg and Sally, “Gramp” to James, Alicia, Becky, Hillary and Nicholas, “brother” to Brian, as well as best friend and husband of 47 years to Kathleen. The name he was most proud of was “Poppy” from his pride and joy, Lanaia.

David and F/V Midnight were best known for their grueling work ethic. On most mornings (seven days a week unless it was illegal), you would hear Midnight’s CAT fire up, way before the crew arrived, to head out for herring, shrimp, urchins, scallops, and lobsters. Regarding David’s work habits, one could speak to Fred Stimpson about circling his boat for herring and long conversations with Leon Pierce that went on and on about bait, hot spots, and shedders. They were great friends.

David’s entire life was spent between Manchester Road and Joy Road in Northeast Harbor. At 83 years young, he felt proud of the village he always called home.

The funeral service for Poppy was held at Forest Hill Cemetery on Sunday, November 26th. Thanks to Mark, James, Ian, Jim, Colby, Bruce, Mac, Chris, Ben, Chris, Tom, and Ryan. He was sent to heaven with several hundred family and friends present to say good bye.

WE LOVE YOU Poppy.
