Obituary for Mary Ellen Shaw

Mary Ellen  Shaw
Mary Ellen Shaw, 80, died October 20, 2017 at her home in Bar Harbor. She was born March 3, 1937 in Robesonia, PA the daughter of Lester P. and Minerva A. (Wealand) Livinghouse.

Mary Ellen grew up in Robesonia and graduated from Robesonia High School. After graduation she came to Bar Harbor for the summer and worked on the Kent Estate. It was there that she met her future husband Norman P. Shaw. They married in 1956 and made Bar Harbor their home. They had four sons and she was a devoted mother and wife. Summers she devoted time to her business the Dancing Deer Gift Shop.

Mary Ellen was a member of the Mt. Desert Garden Club where she was very active. She also enjoyed the get togethers that The Red Hat’s had.

She was a wonderful bird carver. Mary Ellen had an exhibit at The Wendell Gilley Museum in Southwest Harbor. She was an artistic person who enjoyed the time she spent creating. Mary and Norman enjoyed spending winters in Venice, Florida and summers at Camp on Long Pond. It was there where her Flower garden was kept.

Mary Ellen is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years; four sons: Norman P. Shaw Jr., Robert L. Shaw, Michael W. Shaw and Brian D. Shaw and wife Michelle all of Bar Harbor; five grandchildren; Nicholas N. Shaw, Hannah A. Shaw, Kelsey E. Shaw, Mia H. Shaw and Alicia K. Shaw; two brothers, Lesley and Lowell Livinghouse; three sisters, Joanne Baver, Loretta Cunningham and Lois Heffner, sister in law Nancy Lombardi; and many nieces and nephews.

Private Family Services will be held at the family’s convenience.

Mary will be memorialized at the Pineo site next to the Episcopal Church in Bar Harbor.
