Trenton -- Richard E. Royal, 85, died July 11, 2017 at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. He was born in Ellsworth, December 24, 1931, the son of Edwin and Leona (Henry) Royal.

He graduated from Ellsworth High School, class of 1950. He served in the US Navy for 4 years on the USS Rushmore. Richard worked and retired from the Maine Department of Transportation. He enjoyed working around his home, cutting wood, gardening and was a long time caretaker of many summer homes. He was a long time member of the Lygonia Masonic Lodge #40, A.F. & A.M.

He is survived by his sister, Margaret R. Dunn and husband Richard and their family. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Royal; and stepson, Mark Estabrook.

A private graveside service will be held for immediate family only.
