Obituary for Compton K. Hallock

Compton K. Hallock, 61, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on July 18, 1955, in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Compton K. and Marilyn {Streling) Hallock. Compton grew up in Traverse City, Michigan and after high school attended a local college until leaving to pursue professional skiing,

He moved with his family to Southwest Harbor in 1977, and Mount Desert Island was home for the rest of his life. He married Eileen (Torie) McMorrow on June 27, 1981 and together they made a home in the town of Mount Desert. Compton was a skilled woodworker who worked as a carpenter, contractor, and caretaker for 39 years. He had a love for the water and spent time sailing and making boat deliveries. Among his many interests were fishing, hunting, and trapping. Compton read widely and kept up with all current events. He will be remembered for his witty storytelling and sharp sense of humor.

He is survived by Torie, his wife of 35 years, his mother Marilyn (Hallock) Hermann of Bass Harbor, and a wide range of friends. He was predeceased by his father and his brother, Jeff. Compton also dearly loved his family of Labrador retrievers (Cowboy, Hoss, Maggie, and Hey) and a cat named Mistah.
